STAMFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A 72-year-old substitute teacher was arrested for touching himself in front of students inside a high school in Stamford Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

A paraeducator told police she saw a male substitute teacher, who was identified as Michael Luecke, masturbating in the Raynor area at West Hill High School at about 7:30 a.m.

She told police that she thought Luecke was injured. When she went to help him,  he had "his hand in his pants and manipulating his penis." The paraeducator screamed as Luecke ran away.

West Hill High School resource officers identified Luecke and detained him after he was discovered "overseeing" a classroom.

Luecke, who has been used for a number of years as a substitute teacher, was arrested. School officials said they have never had any problems in the past with him.

According to video surveillance footage, Luecke was seen "suspiciously manipulating the front of his pants while looking at students in the courtyard." There are six students in the area when Luecke is allegedly performing this lewd act.

Police said they are trying to identify these students to see if they are in need of any counseling.

The video also shows Luecke going behind lockers for about one minute, emerging and lying on his back on the floor in the Raynor building.

"The witness then confronts him while he is on the floor and observes him with his pants open and his penis in an aroused state," police said in a statement Wednesday.

Luecke was charged with public indecency, second-degree breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor. He was given a $25,000 bond.

School officials said background screenings and security checks are done on every substitute teacher before being added to a pool of possible candidates.

The principal made an announcement about Luecke's arrest at the end of school day, according to parents and students.
