WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - A Lakota West High School senior was arrested Wednesday for bringing on a loaded 9 mm handgun onto school grounds.
West Chester Township Police said the gun was found in Deangelo Jones' backpack in his friend's car in the school lot. The friend was not charged.
The school received an anonymous tip that Jones, 18, of West Chester Township, carries a weapon in his backpack.
Jones was charged with possession of deadly weapons on school premises, a fifth degree felony.
In an email, Principal Elgin Card said the student didn't bring the weapon into school.
"Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken based on the Lakota Student Code of Conduct," Card said.
Card also said Lakota Board of Education policy bans all firearms from all school property.
"It is not permissible to bring any weapon onto school property even if secured in a private vehicle," he said.
