A Rusk woman is expected to be arraigned Thursday, after authorities charged her with the murder of her 76-year-old husband Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators say that sometime Wednesday afternoon, the woman called 911, admitting to the crime.
Cherokee County Sheriff James Campbell said the 53-year-old woman was later charged with murder, after her husband was found dead in the couple's home outside of Rusk, just west of the intersection of Highway 84 and FM Road 347.
"It's just sad, that's all," says Alice Mathew, one of the couple's neighbors, "She was very talkative towards me when she found out I was her neighbor and she welcomed me to the neighborhood."
The 76-year-old man suffered a single gunshot wound. Officials say they found him in the couple's living room.
"They're quiet people and I didn't realize something like this would happen," says Steve Mathew, who lives right next to the crime scene.
Officials said they expect to release the couples identity following Thursday's arraignment. Investigators have not released a motive for the shooting.
