Closing Arguments Set For Monday

Prosecution in Peterson case to call rebuttal witnesses

Prosecutors at Scott Peterson's California murder trial begin calling rebuttal witnesses today. Defense lawyers rested their case yesterday after calling 14 witnesses but Peterson didn't testify.

The prosecution earlier called 174 witnesses. Some legal experts say the defense team failed to fulfill some key promises made in opening statements. One calls the defense case a "huge disappointment." Legal analyst Jim Hammer says he suspects the judge rejected a lot of defense evidence, such as a reputed demonstration video tossing a body "or weights like a body" overboard.

Former prosecutor Dean Johnson says the defense failed to provide any evidence that Laci Peterson's baby was born alive after she disappeared.

Closing arguments are set for Monday and the jury could get the case a week from today.
