Walthall County Sheriff's office investigating body found in river
TYLERTOWN,MS (WDAM) -
The Walthall County Sheriff's Office is investigating a body found on the banks of the Bogue Chitto River over the weekend. Sheriff Duane Dillon says there is no reason to suspect foul play, but it can't be ruled out either.
According to an article by the Tylertown Times and verified by Sheriff Dillon the body was discovered by county resident Bobby McGinnis around 10am Saturday morning.
McGinnis was out looking for driftwood just north of his home on the Bogue Chitto river when he found the badly decomposed body.
The body was located on the west bank of the river south of Walker Bridge Water Park, and has been sent to Jackson for autopsy.
Sheriff Dillon says the body has been identified as 55-year-old Daniel Armstrong who had been living in McComb. Armstrong was last seen on February 6.
Dillon says the sheriff's office has been told Armstrong had been out of work for some time and was depressed. Armstrong had moved to McComb from Tennessee and was identified by his Tennessee driver's license found on the body.
Dillon says they have also been in contact with the family in Tennessee. The family says they've had little contact with Armstrong in the last several years.
The sheriff's office is investigating and has no reason to suspect foul play from viewing the body. However, nothing can be ruled out until the coroner's report comes back from the state crime lab.
