Carnegie Theater to show "Elza" on Saturday

(FOX19) - The autobiographical movie "Elza" will be shown 7 p.m. Saturday at The Carnegie in Covington.

The movie explores the emotional journey of a young Parisian women who returns to her native  Guadeloupe in search of her father.

She is hired as a babysitter for her father's 6-year-old granddaughter and finds that her family is filled with mental illness and bigotry.

The movie looks at themes of cultural identity, skin color, roles of families, understanding the past and child abandonment.

Director Mariette Monpierre based the movie on her own life. She was born in Guadeloupe but was an exchange student at Aiken High School in College Hill for her senior year.

The film is being shown at The Carnegie as part of International Women's Day.
