EVANSTON, OH (FOX19) - The Xavier University Board of Trustees has approved an $18 million renovation of Alter Hall that will begin in May.
Since the building opened in 1960, Alter Hall has been the primary classroom building for Xavier.
The university said financing for the project will come from annual operating cash flows without incurring any new debt.
The project will begin in May with partial demolition and gutting of the building. It will be re-opened for classes in August 2015.
Alter Hall was dedicated in December 1960 and was the first air conditioned building on the Xavier campus.
The cost of construction was $1.175 million. It included a 300-seat lecture hall and 33 classrooms which doubled classroom space for the university.
