CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

University of Cincinnati students on Sunday came together to fight cancer by sacrificing their own hair.

Nearly 75 people took part in a simultaneous haircut event as a part of the ‘Beautiful Lengths' campaign.

The campaign is a partnership between Pantene and the American Cancer Society that creates real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair from cancer treatments. Participants in Sunday's event received hair cuts, with all the hair chopped being donated to ‘Beautiful Lengths.'

"I've always been passionate about finding a cure for cancer. So, that's why I decided to raise money and shave my head today," said participant Anne Ackerman, whose mother passed away from breast cancer four years ago.

Pantene says the program has donated 24,000 free real-hair wigs to American Cancer Society's wig banks, which distribute wigs to cancer patients across the county.
