(FOX19) - University of Cincinnati men's basketball coach Mick Cronin was named the American Athletic Conference's coach of the year, UC said Wednesday.
The Bearcats were picked fourth in preseason conference polls and earned only one vote in the preseason Associated Press poll. UC finished the regular ranked No. 13 in the AP poll and shared the conference regular season title. It was UC's first league title since 2004.
UC has a 26-5 overall record (15-3 conference). The team is 4-1 this season against top 25 teams. They've been ranked in the AP top 25 poll each of the last nine weeks.
Also earning conference honors for UC were senior forward Justin Jackson and senior guard Sean Kilpatrick. Jackson was named defensive player of the year. The conference gave Kilpatrick its sportsmanship award.
The conference's 10 coaches voted on the awards.
