LEE COUNTY, AL (WSFA) -
The Auburn Police Division has arrested a man, after he eludedpolice in a stolen vehicle.
Police arrested 33-year-old Larry Mims, Jr. on Thursday andcharged him with first degree receiving stolen property and attempting to eludepolice.
The arrest comes after Auburn Police investigated a reportof an auto theft on Feb. 4 at the 600 block of Westview Drive. The resident there reported that their 2012Chrysler Town& Country was stolen from the property.
According to police, an Auburn Police Officer observed a white van on Thursdaymorning at approximately 4:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Highway 148 in LeeCounty. Upon making contact with the driver, later identified as Mims, he beganacting suspicious and drove away. The police officer received confirmation thatthe vehicle was stolen, and authorities began a pursuit of the vehicle.
The pursuit eventually ended in the 4700 block of Highway 80in Russell County. The suspect was taken into custody by Auburn Police with theassistance of deputies from the Lee and Russell County Sheriff Departments.There were no injuries or serious damage reported from the incident, and thevan, valued at $19,995, was recovered.
Mims was transported to the Lee County Jail where he will beeligible for a $6,500 bond. The case remains under investigation and additionalarrest are possible.
