ETOWAH COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

An Etowah County woman is one of only 8,000 people in the world who are testing out what could be the next big thing in technology.

Chara Kelley of Rainbow City is using the new Google Glass. She demonstrated it for us Thursday in Gadsden.

Chara tells us a simple stroke of the eyepiece, or even a voice command, can bring up temperatures, street directions, shopping choices and it can even identify music.

Chara won the right to beta-test the new product by entering and winning contests on both Twitter and Google+.

The Twitter contest slogan that won for her was "If I had Glass, I could see clearly now," which is a play on a 1970s song.

She says she's toured seven different countries, including the U.S. and was surprised by the reaction.

Her Google Glass demonstrations have taken her to the Netherlands, Egypt, and even to the running of the bulls in Spain.

It's amazing for a woman who barely had a digital footprint two years ago and still doesn't have a Facebook page.

She is, however, on Twitter and Google+ and has a YouTube Channel.
