The renovation of a Korean War Veteran's home in Montgomery
has been completed.
Rebuilding Together Central Alabama, Exelis Action Corps,
and AmeriCorps have been working since November to restore the veteran's home. Several
volunteer groups were brought in to help with the remodeling of the house.
The resident of the home, 82-year-old Lindsey Kirksey, has
lived in the house on McKinney Street his entire life. The house was in
terrible shape before the multiple volunteer groups, which were involved,
decided to repair it. Extensive roof, wall, and floor repairs were made to get
the house back into living condition. Thanks to the Heroes at Home Project,
volunteers were able to give back to a veteran who served his country.
"Heroes at Home is a terrific opportunity for us to give
back to the men and women who have given so much to our country," Said Charley
Shimanski, President and CEO of Rebuilding Together.
Mr. Kirksey was presented with his newly remodeled house at
a ceremony on Sunday.
