The Selma Police Department Narcotics Unit made four arrests
on Monday after receiving a tip about the selling and consumption of illegal
drugs at a hotel.
Police received a call concerning room 207 at the American
Best Value Inn, stating that illegal drugs were being sold and consumed in the
room. Narcotics detectives responded to the call and met with the hotel owner
who gave them permission to search the room.
As the detectives were heading to search the room, they
spotted 36-year-old Roosevelt White Jr., a known drug-dealer, coming down the
stairs and attempting to get into a silver vehicle. The officers approached the
suspect before he could enter the vehicle, and during a field interview
discovered a bag that the suspect was carrying contained drugs. The bag was
open and contained several large plastic bags of what appeared to be marijuana.
Officers then detained White and searched him, which resulted in them finding a
.380 caliber handgun and crack cocaine in his possession.
After the detainment of Mr. White, detectives entered room
207 where they found 38-year-old Sophonna Tiffany Reese consuming crack
cocaine. Detectives also arrested 47-year-old Hannah Hasberry and 44-year-old
Veronica Brewer at the hotel. The suspects were detained and transported to the
Selma Police Department where they were interviewed. After the interviews, the
suspects were arrested and transported to the Dallas County Jail.
Roosevelt White Jr. was charged with one count of unlawful
possession of control substance, one count of first degree possession of
marijuana, one count of ex-felon in possession of a firearm, one count of possession
of drug paraphernalia and one count of third degree receiving stolen property. White
is being held on a bond set at $210,000.
Sophonna Tiffany Reese was charged with one count of
unlawful possession of control substance, and one count of unlawful possession
of drug paraphernalia. Reese is being held on a bond set at $35,000.
Hannah Hasberry and Veronica Brewer were both charged with
one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. They are both being
held on a bond set at $5,000.
