(FOX19) - There's big announcement from the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden Tuesday evening.

Thane Maynard, the zoo's executive director, praised Ohio Gov. John Kasich for including a $3 million investment as part of the state's 2014 capital budget.

This includes $2 million toward the zoo's Africa project and  $1 million will help establish a cheetah breeding facility in Warren County.

"Gov. Kasich's investment will allow the Cincinnati Zoo to continue to offer a truly world-class zoo experience to southwest Ohio families," Maynard said.

"We are extremely fortunate that Gov. Kasich recognizes and appreciates the life-long impact a high quality educational exhibit can have on developing young minds. His investment will make that possible for hundreds of thousands of pre-school and school-aged children."
