Police: Suspects arrested after posing as officers

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Two men have been arrested and another suspect is still on the run after the trio allegedly posed as police officers and robbed two people Tuesday night.

A man was dropping his girlfriend off at their house on Moonlight Drive off Brick Church Pike when a car pulled up behind them with its brights on.

The man says three men with guns got out from the car and started yelling, "This is the police!"

The man's girlfriend got away, but he and a friend stayed in the car.

They say the men made them strip down to their underwear and robbed them before taking off.

"Luckily they took what they wanted and left and didn't hurt them. Most of the time they take what they get and still take your life," said Angela Parker, who lives nearby.

The victims called police and gave them a description of the car.

A short time later, an officer saw a car matching the description and pulled it over. One man allegedly jumped out of the car, but police were able to arrest the other two.

About an hour after this incident, police say men posing as police officers knocked on a door in East Nashville but never got inside the home. They took off in a white Suburban.

Anyone with information on either of these incidents are asked to contact Metro police.

Criminals have been impersonating police officers in many communities across Middle Tennessee recently. A high-profile case in Maury County involved two men in a yellow Camaro who stopped drivers and then robbed them.

Those men or the yellow Camaro still haven't been found.

And in Montgomery County, police arrested military officer posing as a civilian officer. He pulled someone over using blue lights and then took off. The real police still don't know why.

"You don't know where to go now. 'Is this a real police officer or is it someone trying to take what I've got?'" Parker said. "If they pull me over, they're gonna have to follow me downtown, because I'm not going to stop if it's a random area and I don't really know it's a police officer

Experts say if you are unsure, pull over in a well-lit or populated area, keep your windows rolled up and doors locked until you see the officer's uniform and badge and if you feel threatened, call 911 and report your location. A dispatcher will know if you are dealing with a real officer and send help if you are not.
