Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman will undergo surgery Thursday after being hit in the face by a line drive during Wednesday night's spring training game.

Manager Bryan Price told members of the media Thursday that doctors did not believe Chapman suffered a brain injury from the hit but suffered a mild concussion.

The game against the Kansas City Royals was canceled after the drive struck Chapman above the left eye in the sixth inning. Chapman stayed on the ground for around 10 minutes before leaving on a stretcher and taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Chapman suffered fractures above his left eye and nose.

According to Senior MLB Writer Ken Rosenthal with FOX Sports, the team's doctor called Chapman "a very lucky guy." Normal time of recovery will take approximately 6 to 8 weeks, however that doesn't mean Chapman will be able to throw right away.

Price said the team is optimistic the pitcher can make a full recovery.
