Cranley to turn Burnet Woods into Cincinnati's own Central Park

CLIFTON, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley wants to make Burnet Woods the next Central Park.

Cranley says the park is underutilized and he wants people to come and take advantage one of the gems of Cincinnati.

Burnet Wood is set right in the heart of Clifton between MLK and Ludlow Avenue. The idea is create more gateways to the park as well as improve parking, lighting, picnic areas and trails.

Cranley also wants to create a pedestrian bridge from the park to the University of Cincinnati. The bridge will be built over MLK so students would never have to stop for traffic.

This idea has not been funded yet but the mayor would like all these improvements to be completed by 2016. Cranley told FOX19 that he wants to identify several funding sources in the years to come.

Cranley compares the potential impact of 90-acre Burnet Woods to Central Park in New York City. UC President Santa Ono says he loves the idea.
