LEXINGTON, KY (FOX19) -

Police in Lexington, Ky. arrested a Hamilton homicide suspect, Hamilton Police announced Thursday.

Hamilton Police said Phillip Coleman III was arrested for the murder of Deandrew Jackson. Hamilton detectives learned that Coleman had left Ohio in an attempt to avoid his arrest.

Working with law enforcement in Mississippi, Georgia and other states, police determined that Coleman was traveling by Greyhound bus through the Lexington area.

Officers say that Coleman shot and killed Jackson around 9:30 p.m. Friday evening. The shooting happened near the intersection of Front and Pershing streets.

Officials arriving on the scene found Jackson, 24, suffering from a gunshot wound. Jackson was flown to University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment. He was pronounced dead soon after arrival.

"Our detectives have been working around the clock to determine who committed this murder, attempt to locate the suspect and take him into police custody," Hamilton Police Chief Scott Scrimizzi said. "Through the excellent cooperation of police agencies from many states, Coleman is now in custody."
