The incident began as a robbery investigation. Undercover detectives scheduled a meeting with 20-year-old Edna Liban, who they believed was responsible for armed robberies that occurred earlier this week, according to Colerain Township police.
When authorities arrived for the meeting on Oak Knoll Drive, police say Liban helped an underage male suspect get in to the backseat of the detective's car, where the suspect then attempted to rob them at gunpoint. Police say he pointed a .45 caliber gun directly at the detective's head.
The detective was able to bail from the car, and Liban and the male with the gun fled the scene. Police say the suspects then encountered another police officer, who fired a single shot, hitting the male suspect in the hand.
The suspect then dropped his gun and surrendered. He was taken to UC Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries.
Liban was also taken in to custody. She appeared in court Saturday morning and was charged with aggravated robbery.
The officer who fired the shot has been put on paid administrative leave for 72 hours as police continue to investigate.
