Hamilton Co. Coroner's Office: Baby pulled from West Chester pond has died

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - The Hamilton County Coroner's Office says the 9-month-old baby girl rescued Monday from a West Chester Township retention pond has died.

First responders recovered Bella Shi strapped in a stroller from the pond Monday afternoon in a West Chester Township subdivision.

West Chester Township spokeswoman Barbara Wilson said the stroller rolled down an embankment of a basin into the water with the child.

The stroller and child were in the water for about 30 minutes. Wilson said the stroller was completely submerged.

A resident who called 911 told a West Chester Township dispatcher Monday that a young girl around 18 who can swim was going into the pond.

"There's a girl standing in the pond right now. She's kind of looking down. She doesn't really know where to look," the resident said.

A language barrier appears to be a problem that residents faced when trying to help.

The dispatcher asked if there was a translator.

"Nobody's able to communicate with them?"

A prayer vigil is 7 p.m. Wednesday at Life Changers Church, 7474 Morris Road, Fairfield Township.

The child was pulled out at 2:23 p.m. The incident was reported as a drowning at about 1:55 p.m. on a Windy Harbor Way retention basin. The street is part of the Villages of Providence subdivision near Endeavor Elementary School and Ohio 747.

The child was pronounced dead at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center Monday.
