Report: Masked man with candy followed bus, attempted to abduct girl

GASTON COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A masked man tried to lure a 14-year-old girl into his truck using candy after she got off of her school bus.

According to the Gastonia Police Department, the incident happened Tuesday just after 3:30 p.m. on West Poplar Street.

The teenage girl attends a middle school in Gaston County.

Police say that the man was initially driving behind the young girl's school bus. When the girl got off the bus to go home, the man drove up to her and offered her candy from a purple bowl.

"I got off the bus and he rolled down the window and asked me, if I wanted a piece of candy," she said. "I started running, and when I started running, he shot off and he left."

The man is described as a white male with shoulder-length brown hair. He was wearing a mask and a white long-sleeve shirt.

Police said he was driving a black four-door Chevy Silverado.

The girl is now worried that he may come to her campus.

She said, "I'm scared he'll show up there, but I know the cops there have patrols."

Neighbors and the girl tell WBTV that it's the second time since February that the girl has been targeted by the same suspect.

Anyone with information about the man or the incident is asked to call Gaston County Police at (704)866-6878.
