Weather likely cause in Norwood building collapse

NORWOOD, OH (FOX19) - Crews say that an abandoned Norwood building will have to be leveled after partially collapsing on Thursday evening.

Dispatch first received reports of the building collapse just before 5 p.m. The building is located in the 5400 block of Carthage Drive.

"The building has been vacant for about six-years at this time," says Marty Kroell with the Norwood Fire Department. "It was vacated by orders from the City of Norwood."

Crews are not completely sure what caused the collapse. However, they speculate it was due to heavy rain.

"Most likely it's from all of the rain we have got," adds Kroell. "We can't get up on the roof to tell, but it looks like the drainage on the roof was not taken care of."

No one was injured in the collapse.

"It's a good thing none of the neighborhood kids were playing out front. We could have had a fatality," says Kroell.

Fire crews say that the city will most likely order the building to be leveled.
