Caught on camera: Man tries to lure Sheridan girl into car, she escapes

SHERIDAN, OR (KPTV) -

A stranger used a dog to try to lure a 10-year-old Sheridan girl into his car outside of her Sheridan home, according to the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office.

The girl was outside on her motorcycle in the middle of the afternoon Monday, when she says the man pulled up to her along Ballston Road and rolled down his window.

He reportedly motioned for her to come closer and then pointed at his golden lab in the front seat, according to deputies.

The girl tells FOX 12 it was her instincts that told her to ride away from the man and toward her home, triggering the family's motion activated cameras. Those heart stopping seconds, capture the girl rushing for help and the man lurking slowly behind her in his car.

The 10-year-old then told her mother what happened. The two tried to follow the man's car into Sheridan, but they couldn't find it, according to deputies.

Ironically, the family tells FOX 12 that A & E Security just finished installing their camera system at the end of last week, giving Yamhill County deputies a rare glimpse of the man and the car that they're looking for.

Deputies say the man has grayish hair and a beard and is believed to be in his late 50's. The car is described as an early 1970's two-tone brown four-door vehicle.

"I applaud this 10-year-old girl acting decisively, and her parents for teaching her how to react in situations like this," said Yamhill County Captain Tim Svenson.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office at 503-434-7506.

Deputies say they are looking for the man so that they can find out what his intentions were, but at this point are treating this as a suspicious circumstance.
