Ten Tri-State high schools have made The Washington Post's list of "America's Most Challenging High Schools."

Here's how local schools are ranked:

Walnut Hills: 87th nationally, first in Ohio

Highlands: 138th nationally, first in Kentucky

Wyoming: 106th nationally, second in Ohio

Indian Hill: 157th nationally, third in Ohio

Beechwood: 206th nationally, third in Kentucky

Madeira, 481st nationally, 13th in Ohio

Mariemont, 508th nationally, 16th in Ohio

Turpin: 1,120th nationally, 24th in Ohio

Covington Latin: 1,340th nationally, 13th in Kentucky

Dixie Heights, 1,786th nationally, 14th in Kentucky

There were no Tri-State schools on the list from Indiana.

The Post says schools are ranked "through an index formula that's a simple ratio: the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school each year, divided by the number of seniors who graduated that year. A ratio of 1.000 means the school had as many tests as graduates."

The Post said the database has scores for more than 1,900 public and private high schools nationwide.
