A family dog is dead and a house is being called a 'total loss' following a fire in Colerain Township.
Emergency crews were called to the scene of a house fire Thursday morning in Colerain Township. It was reported just before 10 a.m. in the 3100 block of Desher Drive.
Crews arriving on the scene found a working structure fire with flames extending through the roof of the home.
Officials say that the fire was fought defensively to protect neighboring homes from the intense heat. Authorities were able to bring the fire under control within 20 minutes.
The fire was determined to have started in a vehicle parked approximately 5-feet from the house. The owner of the vehicle told investigators he was having some electrical issues with his car. The strong winds contributed to driving the fire from the vehicle and into the home, according to firefighters.
Crews say that a small family dog was found deceased during overhaul operations. Crews say the house and vehicle are total losses with estimates in excess of $50,000.
