Police say that a 23-year-old man fled the scene of an accident after losing control of his vehicle and striking a homeless man under a bridge.

The accident happened just after 2:30 p.m. Friday. Officers say that Robert Harvey, 23, was driving northbound on I-471 near the 5.5 milepost when the accident occurred.

Authorities say that Harvey lost control of his vehicle and traveled off the left side of the roadway. Harvey traveled through a grassy median and struck an overhead bridge rail. Police say that Harvey struck a pedestrian sleeping underneath the bridge as part of a homeless camp.

Harvey fled the scene on foot following the accident. Cincinnati Police say they apprehended him a short time later.

The car was severely smashed in the front compartment and authorities on scene told FOX19 they can't believe the driver was able to get out of the car himself.

The homeless man reportedly had some broken bones and was taken to UC Medical Center for treatment.

The traffic unit is continuing their investigation. Anyone with information on the accident is asked to contact the traffic unit at 513-352-2514.
