(FOX19) - Anyone can take the first simple steps to save a life. For the thousands of people diagnosed every year with life-threatening cancers like leukemia and lymphoma, a cure exists.

Be The Match manages the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world. Operated by the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), Be The Match has provided one-on-one support to cancer patients and their families for the last 25 years.

Donors and patients are matched by their HLA type, which is different from matching blood types. A simple cheek swab is all that it takes to determine whether you're a close bone marrow match for someone battling cancer.
