Ky. House debating 'Heroin Bill' to change drug laws

FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19) -

The Kentucky House of Representatives is debating a bill to change drug laws in the state.

Senate Bill 5, otherwise known as, "The Heroin Bill," has a lot of support from lawmakers in Northern Kentucky as they continue to debate Monday morning in Frankfort.

What the bill would change:

  • Increased prison sentence for dealers. Prisoners will be required to complete 50% of their sentence before given the option of parole.
  • Traffickers could be charged with homicide.
  • Naloxone, a drug that helps revive a person during an overdose, will be more available to first responders.
