Teen attacked at school hopes attacker is expelled from school

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A teenager attacked in his Gwinnett County school by another student last month just learned he will need multiple surgeries to repair his face.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old David Egan's accused attacker, a fellow student at Parkview High School, faced a disciplinary panel in a closed-door hearing Monday.

The accused attacker, also 16 years old, sucker-punched David Egan in a school locker room. Other students stood around cheering and taping the violence with their cell phones. In the video, you see the attacker punch David Egan once, then a second time as he goes flailing into lockers along the wall before falling into the ground.

The blows broke David Egan's nose right off his skull, shattering his cheekbones. The school called his father, Daniel Egan, to come pick him up. Daniel Egan arrived to find his son in shock and bleeding profusely as he waited.

Daniel Egan testified as a witness at the hearing. His father said officials replayed the video at the hearing.

"And man, that just made my blood boil. Just watching that video all over again just got me really upset," Daniel Egan told CBS46 reporter Donna Rapado. "I think there needs to be a zero tolerance policy for these types of things. And I don't think you can handle it with kids gloves, so to speak, which is why I have an issue with it being handled as a juvenile case. It's not a juvenile crime. It's not juvenile injuries."

David Egan has been out of school for four weeks so far and has had to do his 10th-grade classwork at home as he recovers and awaits several more facial surgeries.

There's no word yet on what the district decided at the disciplinary hearing.

Meanwhile, the accused attacker is charged as a juvenile with aggravated battery.

The Egans have hired an attorney.
