Couple gets married outside of their burnt home

LEDYARD, CT (WFSB) -

A couple from Ledyard got married this afternoon in front of their home that was destroyed in a fire last week.

Last Monday, Megan Hunley and Brian Osborne were forced to run from their burning home with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

Brian thought the ring that he bought months ago was gone, but on a long shot he asked a firefighter to go back inside and look.

The firefighter found the ring in the bedroom beneath a pile of rubble. The box was burned, but when he brought it out the ring was found to be untouched.

There was no white dress or fancy flowers at the wedding, but there was a ring and that's all that mattered to them.

"I wouldn't want it any other way. All that other stuff is materialistic," Megan said.

Although Megan didn't know it, the ring was bought months ago, but Brian was just waiting for the right time. Neither of them thought that a fire would be what brought them together.

"I don't think we imagine this, I don't think anybody imagined this," said Megan.

Megan and Brian exchanged vows surrounded by family and friends less than a week after their home was destroyed.

"I cried because it makes you wonder why of everything, you know, why of everything did this make it?" Megan asked.

Instead of wearing a white dress, Megan wore her sweat pants and Brian wore a t-shirt. These were the same clothes that the couple was wearing when they ran from the fire. It was a reminder to never look back.

"It's all symbolic, we look at it like after everything we've been through, why wait. You never know what's going to happen, you never know what's going to happen next," said Brian.
