CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Andy Dalton is back in the spotlight as the Bengals opened up voluntary off-season workouts Monday.

His first time speaking to the media since team owner Mike Brown and head coach Marvin Lewis publicly stated they want their quarterback to sign a contract extension before beginning the final year of his contract, Dalton confirmed both sides are talking but the talks are still ongoing.

Entering his fourth year as the Bengals quarterback, Dalton said the contract talks will not be a distraction.

"I guarantee you nobody here is thinking about my contract," said Dalton of the Bengals locker room. "I'm not worried about it. When it happens, it's going to happen. I can't worry about it. I'm not in control of that right now so I don't think it's on the minds of anybody right now."

Dalton says his side is comparing his accomplishments in the first three years of his career as a gauge on what he should be paid.  Dalton is one of only five NFL quarterbacks to lead his team to the playoffs his first three seasons.

But, does he feel more pressure entering this season without a playoff win?

"I don't feel any added pressure. I don't feel this team does," Dalton said. "We've improved every year. Obviously, we haven't got the win in the playoffs that we've been really trying to get but the team has gotten better overall. I just think we've got to continue to improve."

Dalton says he's watched the Bengals last playoff loss several times this offseason and re-watched every game he played from the 2013 season. He says his emphasis this year will be taking better care of the football and limiting turnovers.

The Bengals open training camp July 23 at Paul Brown Stadium.
