14-year-old girl killed in Hamilton crash

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - Police said a 14-year-old girl was killed and another person hospitalized early Tuesday in Hamilton after a speeding vehicle lost control and hit a tree.

Authorities said the crash was reported just after 1 a.m. near the intersection of Mosler and Cornell avenues involving a 1994 Toyota Camry. The Hamilton Police Department said it appeared the vehicle was speeding when the driver lost control and hit the tree.

Nicole Denney, of West Chester, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another person in the car was taken to West Chester Hospital for treatment.

Denney was a student at Hopewell Junior School. Principle Jeff Rouf released a statement on Tuesday:

We are greatly saddened to learn that Nicole Denney was killed in a crash. She was a hard-working, excellent young student and an important part of our school.

I'm working with our staff and sharing the news with the students in her class. We'll also have an email going out to Hopewell Junior families this afternoon.

This is always very difficult in any school. We have counselors who are ready to talk to our students and help them in any way they can. We are a very close family here at Hopewell and that helps during times like these.

The accident remains under investigation by the Hamilton Police Department.
