MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - A Middletown man was charged with assault after a 6-year-old boy was shot with a pellet gun and flown to the hospital.
Police said Vince Dewitt, 35, was trying to frighten his girlfriend's son on Easter Sunday and shot what he thought was an empty pellet gun at him. However, police said the gun was loaded and a pellet went through the boy's abdomen causing serious internal injuries.
The child was flown to Dayton Children's Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and remains in the hospital. Authorities said the boy is expected to recover.
