OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) -

Cincinnati residents are invited to get a free health screening Saturday at Washington Park as part of the Center for Closing the Health Gap's 11th annual Health Expo.

Organizers said more than 18,000 people have benefited from free health screenings at the expo since it began in 2003. There will be 20 types of screenings available for children and adults.

The event is part of the Health Gap's campaign to end health inequities. Health Gap President and CEO Dwight Tillery said the expo is geared to serve minority populations who are most affected by the disparities.

"The Health Expo is saving lives every year with the health screenings and education that we provide to vulnerable populations who often lack adequate medical care and information," said Tillery. "The inequities that exist in Cincinnati and throughout the nation have to be combated on the grassroots level. Meeting people where they live to help them live."

The theme of this year's event is "HAPPY: Health is a State of Mind." Organizers said State Senator Eric Kearney, Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley and Bishop Bobby Hilton will receive special recognition Saturday for the positive impact they've made in the area, specifically with vulnerable populations.

The Health Expo is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free to attend. Read additional information at www.closingthehealthgap.org.
