Specialty meat shops are popping up around the Tri-State and they're a great place to support local businesses and experience new cuts of meat.
Allison Hines of Butcher Betties says don't be intimidated by the different cuts of meat offered. Focusing on the flavor of the meat will save time and money.
Here are the Hines' top tip:
- Never throw your bones away. Look up Bone Broth and make it immediately. Soothes your soul and fills your belly without emptying your wallet.
- Focus on quality not quantity. Make changes where you can.
- Never be afraid to ask questions of your butcher.
- Garbage in, garbage out: Animals that are fed better taste better. A reason buy meats at specialty shops where you get what you pay for.
Hines' Butcher Betties is located at the Friendly Market in Florence. The shop is a female forward, pinup inspired butcher shop that specializes in locally raised, natural, grass fed and pastured meats using whole animal butchery.
