MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) -

Authorities identified the woman killed in a massive house fire Thursday in Middletown.

The fire was reported around 10 a.m. in the 2500 block of El Camino Drive. Middletown fire officials said screams were heard from inside the home when crews arrived on scene. The fire was too big, however, and crews were ordered out of the structure.

Firefighters spent approximately 45 minutes on a defensive attack from outside. Authorities said crews were sent back inside and found the body of Sheri Slone, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the assistant fire chief, a passerby tried to rescue those inside but couldn't get in the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
