UC's Spring term sets record

University of Cincinnati's Spring semester was one for the record books.

More than 6,380 degrees were awarded, the highest number the university has ever seen for a class of Spring-term graduates.

Two separate ceremonies were held on Saturday because there were too many graduates to fit into one. They took place at Fifth Third arena and lasted two and a half hours each.

"It's a special day. Our favorite day of the year," UC President Santa Ono said when addressing the graduates.

Rising enrollment numbers and retention rates are partly to thank for the large graduating class, said UC representatives. Graduation rates at UC have increased 16 percent in 10 years.

President Ono took to twitter Saturday evening to sum up the day, saying "My right hand is a little sore from shaking 4000 hands."
