Switzerland Co. hosts artisans tour

(FOX19) -

The public is invited to browse Switzerland County galleries, artist studios and local businesses during the new "Artisans Tour of Switzerland County."

The event is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 3-4. There are no admission charges and artists will have items available for sale.

Twenty artists representing various mediums will have their work on display and will feature demonstrations throughout the event. A map of artisan locations is available at the Switzerland County Visitors Center at 128 W. Main St., the Community Art Center at the corner of Ferry and Main streets in downtown Vevay and at participating artist studios. Maps can be e-mailed by request by calling 812-427-3237 or email visitsc@switzcotourism.com.

"Switzerland County is home to a wide variety of gifted artisans," said Kendal Miller, director of Switzerland County Tourism whose organization is sponsoring the event. "The creativity and talent of these artists are very impressive."

A least one artist is based out of another county but is appearing as a guest of a Switzerland County artist.

Miller said that the artists will be revealing techniques and tips of their trades through demonstrations.

A sneak peak of participating artists' works will be displayed at the Community Art Center located at the corner of Ferry and Main streets during the Vevay's First Friday event 6-9 p.m. May 2. Several artists will be on hand to discuss their work and disclose their location along the tour. Light refreshments will be served.

Artists' locations will be marked with yellow "Art Tour" signs and flags across the county.
