TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Police have arrested and charged a man with murder after they say a woman was found dead in his home back in April.

Denzil Wells II, 41, was arrested by the Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force and charged with murder on Wednesday, May 14.

Police say they received a call to an apartment in the 1400 block of Brooke Park Drive just after noon on April 13. That's where they say they found the body of Nicole Sours, 37. Police said it appeared Sours had passed away sometime during the night.

At the time, Wells told police she spent the night and never woke up.

Sour's sister, Shannon Iddi, says Sours met Wells through a mutual friend. The two went on their first date Thursday April 10. Iddi says just one day later, Sour's apartment burned down. Looking for a place to stay, Wells offered up his apartment. Iddi says Wells picked Sours up from work Saturday night. On Sunday April 13 her body was found at his place.

"At the time there was no signs of trauma… According to him there was nothing going on and it was natural," said Sergeant Joe Heffernan, Toledo Police.

Toledo police turned the case over to the coroner who later ruled the death a homicide. They say she was strangled.

Wells has quite a rap sheet. He has had numerous traffic violations, a DUI, charges of fleeing from police and more.  He is currently being held at the Lucas County Jail after a judge set his bond at $1 million with no 10 percent.

"It's a test to the good word that the detectives and all the officers are doing in the department. If you commit murder in Toledo, you're gonna get caught and go to prison," said Sgt. Joe Heffernan with the Toledo Police Department.

The family says they will be at every court hearing until there is justice for her.

Iddi says their family still has a lot of questions. She's happy an arrest was made but they want to know why this man wanted to hurt her in the first place.

"She was the most caring person that you could ever come across, like I said she would give you the clothes off her back. It's a tremendous loss for us, our family will never be the same," said Iddi.

A family is torn apart by tragedy and left with only questions.

"We don't understand why he would do something like that? What was his motive? Why?" said Iddi.

Wells was arraigned Thursday May 15 and is being held on a $1-million bond. He's due back in court Thursday May 22.
