Presidential Pooch

White House puppy's name comes from Democrat-penned book

Is it an attempt to bridge the partisan divide? President Bush's new puppy, Miss Beazley, is named after a dinosaur in the children's book "The Enormous Egg." One small twist -- its author was a Democrat. Oliver Butterworth died in 1990. His son says rather than "rolling over in his grave," his father would "probably be smiling" because "he liked irony." Still, he says his father would have had great "difficulty" with Bush's re-election. Bush got the Scottish terrier puppy as a birthday present for first lady Laura Bush. She and her twin daughters named the pup. A spokesman for Laura Bush says the pooch will be "very focused on life on the south lawn" rather than politics.
