Police: Erlanger hit-and-run suspect in custody on manslaughter charges

Police say that the suspect in the deadly Erlanger hit-and-run is in custody on manslaughter charges. 

An arrest warrant was issued for Lonnie James Turner, 29, on Sunday afternoon.

Police say Turner turned himself in to police on Sunday evening. He is being held at the Kenton County Detention Center on manslaughter charges, according to Kenton County Prosecutor Rob Sanders. 

The body of Lauren Pettit, 29, was found on the side of the road Saturday morning in Erlanger, Kentucky. Police believe that Pettit, of Erlanger, was the victim of an overnight or early morning hit-and-run.

Officers believe Turner was driving the car involved. Authorities state that alcohol and drugs may have been a factor.

Crews from Duke Energy reported finding the body around 8:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of Crescent Springs Pike.

Emergency crews on the scene say that Pettit may have been struck by a car while walking along the road. The time frame of the accident is currently unknown

Officers say that the stretch of roadway commonly has individuals walking along the shoulder going to and from the Erlanger and Crescent Springs area.
