9/11 Museum gift shop: Appropriate or insulting?
Is it appropriate to have a gift shop at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum?
The museum opened Wednesday to the public and has sparked controversy among some victims' families and the subject of criticism online.
Among the items sold: hats with the FDNY symbol, search and rescue stuffed-dog animals, mugs, T-shirts, hoodies, earrings, tote bags and even a cheese plate.
Organizers of the museum say that the cost to operate the museum, about $65 million yearly, will require the support of revenue generated from the gift shop along with the museum's admission fees at $24 for an adult.
Joe Daniels, president of the National September 11 Memorial Museum, told CNN the No. 1 sellers so far are the DVDs and books they sell that educate the public about the history behind the events of September 11.
But some family members of victims and survivors say it's "crass commercialism that has no place on such hallowed ground."
Will Ferrell vs. Chad Smith drum-off on 'Tonight Show'
On Thursday's "Tonight Show," Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith faced off in a drum battle for the books.
They've been told they look alike for years, and after a bit of smack talk via Instagram videos, the pair finally agreed to do a drum-off for charity.
If you recall, Will Ferrell's previous percussion experience largely consists of playing the cowbell on "SNL." He started strong, but Chad (an actual drummer) managed to pull ahead.
That is.. until Will pulled out his secret weapon.
