BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19) - A homeless man was arrested Friday morning in Burlington, Ky. in connection to a bank robbery that happened just minutes before.

Devon S. Edmonston, 34, formerly of La Grange, Ky., was charged with first degree robbery. Authorities said the incident was reported at about 9:10 a.m. at Heritage Bank on Florence Pike when a man handed the teller a note demanding money and claiming he had a bomb.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office said an off-duty deputy, Sergeant Mitch Kotzbauer, was also in the bank at the time but unaware of the robbery as it was happening.

As the suspect was leaving the bank, Kotzbauer learned of the robbery and followed him on foot. He was able to provide his location to a 911 operator who relayed the information to responding officers.

Authorities said Edmonston had just gotten to his parked car that was in a lot adjacent to the bank when the first on-duty deputy arrived.

Kotzbauer pointed him out and Edmonston was arrested.

He is being held at the Boone County Jail.
