Ky. inmate escapes custody, steals weapon from officer

WEST LIBERTY, KY (FOX19) - A state inmate from Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in West Liberty escaped custody while being transported back to the prison.

According to initial reports, Fabian Valentine, 37, overpowered the correctional officer during a stop at the I-64 East rest stop near Winchester.

Valentine was able to obtain the weapon from the officer. He then fled into the parking lot and stole a vehicle. No one was injured at the rest stop.

Kentucky State Police initiated a pursuit of Valentine on I-64 in Franklin County. According to police, Valentine rammed a state police cruiser and also wrecked the stolen vehicle before being taken into custody. Police said there were no injuries.

Valentine will be transported to EKCC by state police.
