(CNN) - NASA released an image of a "global selfie" of planet Earth on Thursday.
The space agency invited people from around the world to take a selfie on Earth Day, April 22, and share it on social media.
NASA then used some 36,000 individual photographs to build the "global selfie" mosaic.
It's a new view of planet Earth created entirely from selfies.
NASA says it designed the project to encourage environmental awareness and to recognize the agency's ongoing work to protect the planet.
