Reds avoid perfect game, lose to Dodgers

(FOX19) -

The Reds dodged baseball history, but lost the series opener to the Dodgers Monday night in Los Angeles.

The day after Josh Beckett threw a no-hitter for the Dodgers, Los Angeles starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu didn't allow a base runner for the first seven innings.  But, Todd Frazier broke up the perfect game and no hitter with a clean double
on the first pitch of the eighth inning to start a rally.

Down 4-0 entering the inning, the Reds scored three runs to get within a run, but never scored the game tying run.

Johnny Cueto pitched into the seventh inning and finished with only one earned run allowed.  Cueto took the loss to drop his record to 4-4.

The Reds have now dropped three straight games to fall to 22-27 and 4th place in the NL Central.

Ryu was taken out of the game in the 8th inning after giving up three hits and three runs.  No team has ever pitched no-hitters in consecutive games.
