SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
The 9-month-old baby that fell five floors from a balcony in a downtown Savannah hotel has died.
Sahana Shah was transported to Memorial University Medical Center. She remained in critical condition after she fell at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Shah died on Sunday.
The family was visiting Savannah from Ashburn, VA for the Memorial Day weekend.
Police say the mother was holding baby Sahana when she began to kick and jerk, that's when the mother lost her grip.
Baby Sahana fell from the fifth story, all the way to the first floor. Police say she hit a flower pot on the way down.
WTOC spoke to one man on the phone who said he heard the pot hit the floor when he realized what happened. He immediately began performing CPR along with another woman.
"[We did] compressions and rescue breathing and for the nine-month-old child," said Randy Boschulte. "You know I'm praying the whole time when the father and mother came from the upper level down to the floor to where their daughter was, it was just heart wrenching and extremely sad."
Boschulte is a nurse at Duke Medical Center and said he is thankful he knew exactly what to do. He and the other woman were able to revive Shah before she was taken to the hospital where she later died on Sunday.
Violent Crimes detectives from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department continue to investigate the incident.
