U.S. Death Toll Rises

US general says 31 American troops killed in Fallujah battle

A top US military official says 31 American troops have been killed in the week-long fight for the Iraqi city of Fallujah. He also says six Iraqi soldiers have died in the battle to overtake the city from insurgents. US forces say they now occupy the entire city, but are still facing pockets of resistance. They say it'll take another several days of fighting to clear those out. The general says the number of US troops injured in the fight was "up in the high 200s." But he says some of them already have returned to duty. US commanders say more than 12-hundred guerrillas have been killed in the assault.
