LAKELAND, TN -

(WMC) - Several glass windows at Lakeland Factory Outlet Mall were broken overnight. The vandalism could cost the mall thousands of dollars.

The mall's director of operations, Steven Bail, said the windows could have been shot out. It is not the first time the property has been targeted.

About six acts of vandalism have occurred on the property since September. All of them involved broken glass windows.

Mall officials have spent thousands of dollars replacing the windows; they began covering them with plywood because of the cost.

The building is currently vacant and some parts of the property are without power, which would attract trespassers.

"We have a lot of kids who come through here on four-wheelers and four wheel drive and drag racing," said Bail. "The sheriff's department has been on it, but we can't be out here every minute of the day."

Bail says they have discussed putting up barricades, tearing down the building, and possibly even building a new mall.

In the meantime, there is extra security on the premises.
