The Boone County Sheriff's Office is warning of a phone scam involving a man falsely claiming to be a deputy.
The scammer identifies himself as Lieutenant Donaldson and is telling residents they have outstanding fines of $1,468 for failing to appear for jury duty, according to police.
Three residents of the Oakbrook area of Boone County received the same bogus call on Friday within an hour and a half time period.
Officials said they called the number back and spoke to the man responsible, who is described to have a southern accent. The scammer told police he plans to continue the act and they won't be able to catch him.
